Taking care of your high end RockShox, Fox, or Marzocchi suspension is super important if you want it to feel brand new for years to come! It can be tricky to know exactly when it's time to give it a service, and this guide is here to help you know when you ought to give it some love. Every fork and shock has recommended service intervals from the manufacturer, and following these guides is a great way to keep your wheels glued to the ground! We've taken these intervals directly from the manufacturers, and we do recommend more frequent service if riding in particularly muddy or "dirty" conditions.
You'll notice that Fox and Marzocchi don't have a lowers service recommended between full services. We do recommend opening up the fork to clean everything and refresh the oil even though it's not included in the recommended service intervals to maintain small bump sensitivity. Generally, we recommend performing a lowers service every 50-75 hours of riding, or once in between every full fork service. There's no harm in performing these services more often than recommended, but you will find there are diminishing returns with excessively frequent service.
RockShox doesn't recommend that mechanics replace fork seals or foam rings during lowers services, but replacing them is common practice amongs home mechanics and professionals alike. We recommend replacing them when performing a lowers service, but it's an optional step!
We've listed the Service Kits required when applicable, and you'll also need fresh oil when using any service kit. Check out our Suspension Oils Guide to ensure you have the correct oil for the service you're performing!
Some forks can house a variety of air springs and dampers, and you'll need to know exactly which air spring and damper you have to choose the correct service kit. We'll list the most common damper and air spring service kits used for each fork for that production year. Give us a call if you're unsure which to choose!
